The Vassalboro Youth Baseball/Softball League is a great opportunity for our children ages 5-12 to meet new friends, be part of an organized team, feel a sense of community spirit and learn the basic fundamentals of the great games of baseball and softball.  League volunteers are committed to making this a fun experience for the kids.

Play Ball!!!    Games are now underway, we hope this season will continue to be a great experience for the kids.  We’re sure you have noticed the youth league has made some significant improvements to the facilities and player equipment this year.  More changes are planned, but your Help is still needed!

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Your support can take many forms, for the league and your children:

1.     Volunteer for a night in the Snack Shack:  The snack shack is a major fundraiser and keeping it open each game night is very important.  Flippin’ burgers or making change can be a lot of fun…call Norma Allen at 873-7902.

2.     Buy or sell Raffle and Dance Tickets:  Aunts, uncles and of course those grandparents would love a chance at our raffle prizes.  Also, get a group of friends together and head to the benefit dance on June 9th.  Call Terry or Eric LaChance at 872-2762.

3.     Assist your Coach:  Ask your coach how you can help him or her out, especially with T-Ball and Farm league teams where keeping player attention can be a challenge at times.

4.     Work With Your Child between games: perhaps the most important thing you can do to help. As your child’s skills improve, so will their attitude and interest in the game. Game schedules and busy personal schedules do not leave a lot of free time for team practices.

5.     Attend Games On Time: Games start at 6:00 PM, however, players should have adequate time to warm up.  Coaches also need to make up game rosters and figure out who is playing which positions.  A minimum of fifteen minutes before game time is strongly recommended.

6.     Behavior and Attention:  Help coaches maintain a safe environment by stressing to your child that they need to pay attention to the game and be on their good behavior.  We are playing with hard flying balls and metal swinging bats that can be dangerous. Also, coaches cannot concentrate on teaching baseball and softball skills when they must continually speak to the players about behavior.  One or two children can distract a whole team …please be proactive with your child so the coaches can teach.
